About Us
Scaling Barriers is a non-profit organization providing musical instruments to youth to participate in school bands.
Many children can not realize the joy of music because of family and school cutbacks.
The purpose of Scaling Barriers is to acquire musical instruments by donation. We will clean and repair instruments, then provide them through the schools to children in need.
Our goal for the 2011 – 2012 school year: 50 instruments
Our Mission
To provide young people (primarily middle school students), who normally would not be able to learn an instrument, the opportunity to try. We do not intend to compete with music stores but to focus on those children that would not otherwise take band.
School and family budgets are tight, or being cut, so the opportunities for children to learn an instrument, are diminishing. Many families cannot afford the hundreds of dollars to purchase or rent an instrument for a beginning player.
As a resource for the schools, the schools will provide us a list of instruments they need for the school year, for these children, and we will provide the instruments needed. At the end of the school year, we will pick up the instruments, clean and service them, so they are ready for the next school year.
