Scaling Barriers http://www.scalingbarriers.org Providing Instruments and Opportunities for Youth Mon, 22 Aug 2011 01:52:06 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 Under Incorporation http://www.scalingbarriers.org/under-incorporation/ http://www.scalingbarriers.org/under-incorporation/#comments Sat, 03 Jul 2010 20:43:10 +0000 Tim http://www.scalingbarriers.org/?p=16   [ Read More ]]]> We have completed our incorporation as a non-profit in the State of Kansas, and are currently moving forward filing for our 501(c)(3) status.  Though we know that we could probably struggle through the process on our own, we feel this is important enough to get it right from the beginning.  We cannot start this endeavor without the ability to be totally transparent.  If we are going to be asking individuals and businesses to donate instruments and money we have to make sure we get everything right.  I would sooner abandon the entire dream than bring into question anyone’s integrity.  For that reason, we hope to find an accounting firm that will volunteer to audit our books annually, however, if we have to pay for that service, we will.  I can’t stress enough, how important we feel this is, when you are being trusted with other peoples’ money.  It appears it will run around $1,500 to $2,000 in filing and legal fees.  Keep us in mind, as this is a large sum of money, for my family to come up with.  Anyone who knows us is aware that we are doing this out of what little we have, not out of our abundance.  We feel very strongly about this endeavor and have faith, that if it is meant to be, people will step up and help.

That’s where Chris Kramer of Kramer Music steps in.  Chris owned a music store in Shawnee, Kansas that he closed down last year.  He has decided that his passion lies with teaching music and not running a business.  That being said, when I meet Chris, he instantly fell in love with what we were trying to do.  He felt so strongly that he offered to sell us all the instruments, which he received back from rental pool, at an incredible price.  So incredible that if we were to purchase all 72 instruments that he had in his rental pool, we would pay less that what many people will pay for a single instrument!
